Rani and Television

BBC's CBeebies 2005

Ramayana for Diwali Week

Rani was invited by CBeebies to write and present her version of the Ramayana for CBeebies for Diwali week in November 2004, performing it sequentially in the bedtime story programme. She also chose the illustration ideas. This was the first multicultural commission for this programme by CBeebies and was so successful that there followed a commission to write and present for more Asian festivals for 2005; Holi (Hindu) and Baisakhi (Sikh) for Springtime,Buddha's birthday (Buddhist), Rakhee (Hindu) and Eid (Muslim). She has also written a series for the Jewish festival of Chanukah for CBeebies. It is the first time that the stories have been written in this way. Each is self-contained and adheres to the strict guidelines laid down for children's television writing. She has also written and performed a story for the bedtime programme about Rangoli patterns. See bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases for photo and release about the first CBeebie series which will be repeated for Diwali 2005.
